After graduating from Newton North, I spent a year and a half at Michigan State, another 6 months at Harvard and then decided to take some time off. I moved to Los Angeles, where I've been living for the past 24 years. I got into the music business as a vocalist/composer. For years, I frequently worked as a singer on recording sessions. I've also written songs for syndicated television and movies and have been a featured guest artist and teacher at UCLA as well as my songs featured on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. In 1984, I was preparing to move to Europe with many a gig lined up, when my brother, Evan, invited me to a concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he's a member. He introduced me to one of his associates, saying in his heavy Boston accent, "Yo Bro, this is my sista!". Needless to say, I never made it to my gigs in Europe. Jerry Epstein and I married in 1986, I inherited a 7 yr old step-son, Blake, and my brother was actual paid a finder's fee by my grandfather! After having just released a critically acclaimed EP (with a great write-up in USA Today), I decided I wanted to take a long hiatus from the music business and enjoy marital bliss for a while. In 1989, I gave birth to my daughter, Jami and she truly changed my life! We traveled with my husband on his tours all over Europe, with Italy, Paris and Salzburg being among my favorite cities. But...I was itching to sing professionally again. Then, by chance, I was asked to do a spec job for Disney. One of the writers was someone I had worked with 12 years prior. Thus...the lullabye project "NIGHT SONGS" was born. Because of my love of Italy and the beauty of the language, I really wanted to sing the lullabies in Italian (aside from French and Spanish). I had gotten back in touch with my French teacher from Warren Jr. High. Some of you might remember her; Peggy Priore (or when she was married Peggy Stone), now known as Pauline Priore, who had moved to Florence, Italy after her teaching stint at Warren. Pauline wrote all the Italian lyrics and has begun the French version. My husband played the viola solos on various cuts. As a result of the collaborative effort on these CDs, I was a winner in the '97 John Lennon Song Contest and a two time winner in the 1999 PARENT'S GUIDE TO CHILDREN'S MEDIA Awards as well as the 1999 GoGirls.com internet award. My CD, CANTI NOTTURNI was a winner in the 1999 CHILDREN'S MUSIC WEB AWARDS and both CDs were winners in 1999 JUST PLAIN FOLKS MUSIC AWARDS. I was a featured artist on TempoItaliano.com which specializes in Italian music. I've received rave reviews worldwide and CHILDREN'S Magazine said The lyrics and music are beautiful; Parents find themselves wanting to listen to it for their own enjoyment. Ann Oldenberg of USA TODAY said...Anyone who listens will fall under the spell of Rebecca Dru's rich vocals and dreamy lyrics... It's a project in which I take great pride.

Another passion of mine was volunteering my time to work with children. After 35 years, I finally gave it a rest. In the interim, I've developed a music/percussion program that's been implemented in various Los Angeles schools, called "CRASH-BANG-BOOM!" It's a program that allows each child to shine...no one gets left behind. The experience of the drums/percussion instruments allows the children to learn to read and play rhythms together as an ensemble and have fun learning.

Photographs allow us to change the pictures of our past...and it's something I relish especially now with the digital technology available...instant gratification! I digitally archive and restore photographic collections and create mini-documentaries for families wanting to create pictoral family histories. I can incorporate my digital music studio as well as all my toys with my Mac computer. At this time, though, I'm taking a break from working on other collections and concentrating on "The Wilson" family...it's a HUGE project!

I'm also helping my daughter nurture her functional and wearable art/greeting cards business; jamizart.com, dedicating a few hours daily to keep it growing.

But on a lighter note, what I enjoy most is simply savoring all of life's little moments...having fun...laughing and...boogie boarding, snorkling, horseback riding, tropical beaches, cooking, sculpting, a glass of wine with friends in the Tuscan countryside, a good trashy novel, ice skating with my daughter, painting, practical jokes and spending time with my family and friends.
